SVP DALLAS 2030 Strategic Plan Update

From the SVP Dallas Board & Strategy Team

Our SVP Dallas 2030 Strategic Plan began with the voices of over 75 Partners (as well as SVP staff, funders, and numerous community leaders) who at the beginning of 2026 gave the SVP Board important feedback on what is working well, what needs to evolve, and where we can have the greatest impact together. That feedback formed the basis for the planning phase of this effort which we are summarizing here. With the challenge presented to Partners at the end of this update, our 2030 Plan transitions to its next phase: turning these ideas into a reality that further benefits our organization and our community. We very much hope you will be a part.

From the SVP Dallas CEO

For 26 years Social Venture Partners Dallas has played a vital role in strengthening our North Texas nonprofit community. We are excited to launch a strategic plan to enhance that heritage and guide our social impact through 2030. Whether you are a prospective Partner looking to deepen engagement with our North Texas community, a social impact nonprofit seeking capacity building support, or a funder or community leader interested in collaborating on systemic solutions, you belong with SVP Dallas. I am honored to serve this vibrant community and look forward to our work together.

Our Path Forward: SVP Dallas 2030 Plan Update

To reaffirm who we are, what we will do, and why we matter, we first refreshed our mission to a single, concise statement:

Social Venture Partners Dallas catalyzes professionals, changemakers, and donors committed to building nonprofit capacity that advances social impact in underserved North Texas communities.

This statement brings clarity and consistency across every conversation we have about SVP Dallas. It centers the communities we serve, names the Partners who power our work, and grounds us in the capacity-building model that has always driven our impact. Everything SVP Dallas does should have a clear line of sight to this mission.

Three Priorities

Using that mission statement, we did an analysis of SVP Dallas programs against dozens of other available offerings in the area. Using a lens of mission fit, impact, differentiation, affordability, and resources required, we have organized our strategic work going forward around three interconnected priorities:

  • Partner Experience: Reinventing How We Engage

Our Partners are our greatest asset and differentiation; engaging them meaningfully empowers everything we do. Expect a clearer sense of what we offer Partners, a reimagined onboarding experience, clearer Partner pathways for every stage of engagement and time commitment, and a strengthened young leadership program for our next generation of philanthropic champions.

    • Nonprofit Capacity: Driving More Impact

This is where we create our most important community impact. We are bringing the Nonprofit Impact Institute and our Opportunities Committee’s pro bono consulting work together into one unified program. We are also sharpening what we offer the nonprofits we advise and rethinking our broader programming, so every engagement has more impact. We also see an opportunity to scale our Nonprofit Impact Institute and make it available across all thirteen counties in North Texas.

    • Convening: Thoughtful and Accessible Gatherings

We have always been a trusted convener, and we are building on that strength. From our new Spring Social to new monthly programming, we are designing more ways to bring our multi-generational Partner community together with each other and with outside experts. Partners’ availability changes across various stages of their professional and personal lives. That is why we are committed to a new mix of convenings — large and small — so that over the course of a year, every busy Partner has a chance to take part in SVP Dallas events.

    What We Are Deprioritizing

Often the most difficult part of planning is deciding what not to do. We heard from so many community interviews that the current environment for the local nonprofit ecosystem is dire, and advisee organizations need even more from us, precisely because SVP Partners make a difference. To meet that need we must find a way to redirect funds, staff, and Partner resources.

For that reason, our new Strategic Plan deprioritizes direct investing in for-profit social enterprises. A decade ago, SVP Dallas was a pioneer in exposing our community to the value of using market-based approaches to tackle social issues. Thankfully, the ecosystem has since evolved, and other organizations now specialize in this work, allowing us the strategic opportunity is to redeploy funds, staff, and Partners resources away from for-profit investing and toward the nonprofits we serve. We will still promote impact investing with thought leadership, but SVP Dallas itself will make no new direct investments.

Fiscal Sponsorships remain under evaluation. SVP Dallas, like other mature nonprofits, allows new organizations without their own tax-exempt status to operate under our 501(c)(3) umbrella in exchange for oversight and a fee. In 2026 we will evaluate fiscal sponsorships clearly aligned with our mission, organizational capacity, and strategic priorities. We will determine whether to expand, restrict, or eliminate our fiscal sponsorship efforts as we prepare our 2027 budget.

    Accountability Structure

Partners want greater clarity and more objective measures of our effectiveness. That is a strong message to the Board and staff that we have heavy lifting to do. We began with a new, concise restatement of our Mission, and we will follow up by better defining and creating quantitative data with which to track and report our effectiveness as an organization.

Each of the three priorities of our new Strategy will tie to specific 2030 Goals that reinforce our strategic value (for example, Partner growth, increase in nonprofit organizations served and funds granted, Net Promoter Scores, event attendance, etc.). SVP Dallas will also monitor annual Key Performance Indicators agreed upon between the Board and staff that move us incrementally toward our 2030 milestones. We will compare these both to our historical performance and to comparable metrics from other SVP affiliates and similar organizations. We will spend the rest of 2026 creating processes to track metrics for each of our three priorities and setting benchmarks to measure improvement in 2027 and beyond.

Beginning in 2027, Partners can expect a formal SVP Dallas annual impact report in the first quarter of each year that reviews the key quantitative metrics proving our impact. We will also place more emphasis on keeping Partners aware of the personal stories and inspiring successes that the organization and individual Partners are producing.

Balancing Foundational Excellence with Innovative Solutions

Across every priority, we are committing to two parallel standards. Foundational Excellence means clear goals, strong execution, high engagement, defined impact, and measured results in everything we already do well. Innovative Solutions means making space for next-generation ideas, expanding our differentiation, diversifying funding sources, building new external partnerships, and exciting our Partners around what is possible for SVP Dallas. We believe that the surest way to attain these standards is to place them squarely in the hands of our greatest asset: the SVP Partner community. To do so, we are introducing a new advisory and support structure for the SVP staff: Partner Committees.

    A New Engine: Partner Committees

Partner Committees will work under the direction of the CEO and SVP staff to help define tactics, execute plans, and measure progress across our strategic priorities. This is our own community putting our individual expertise into smaller working groups, where every Partner has a place to plug in on behalf of SVP Dallas and its mission.

    Committee Structure:

    • Brown Family Philanthropy Fellows Selection Committee
    • Partner Experience Committee
    • Marketing & Communications Committee
    • Technology Committee
    • Development Committee
    • Nonprofit Capacity Building Committee (Opportunities Committee & NPII)
    • Programs/Events Committee

Here is the opportunity for Partners to find your place to serve and to grow. Each of these Committees is already accepting Partner volunteers and beginning their work. We hope and expect that a majority of Partners will make their way on to a committee, both to make our organization better and also to get to know a smaller group of fellow Partners that may become new friends and colleagues.

    Next Steps

The next steps in our SVP Dallas Strategy work are prioritizing and defining the overarching operational Goals that will best represent success by 2030, creating charters for each of the new Partner Committees, welcoming additional Partners on to each Committee, and creating a final Strategic Plan Summary including the 2030 Milestones which will be the compass guiding our activities and energy over the next three and a half years. Your Challenge: Find Your Place in This Work

Not only does this strategic plan belong to Partners, but it also depends on Partners. At the heart of our entire strategic outlook through 2030 is the conviction that Partners want to play an even larger role in building our organization and improving our region. The next four years hold tremendous possibilities, and we are eager to turn those possibilities into reality. There are approximately 150 current SVP Dallas Partners (and growing) which means there are 150 reasons to be excited about the compounded impact the community of Partners can have on North Texas. Find your place in this great work.
